Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a thrilling plot featuring celestial beings, demons, and sinister influences increasing in influence within the city.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.
This warrior group features Teor (played by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
With an extensive roster, it was evident from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be impossible.
That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before dividing into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven story mode where non-violent answers are rare.
At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might seem mismatched, but the developments of the third episode demonstrate why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the party understands precisely where to head next after a violent first encounter with the enemy group.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.
The antagonist then settled his debts and ran away to a fortified location in the remote area, above the urban center, with Cyd pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each character has a individual motive to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as the close ally and trusted friend, desires vengeance.
- Kattigan knows the region and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
- The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could help the party access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, The fighter pledged a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and Wicander defied the influential house and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- The fighter is marked for death by the clan.
This means them little choice but to head to the remote area in search of Casimir.
Future Episodes
From the recent installment’s post-show segment, we discover that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to form the Questers and Planners parties.
Fans can expect discovering which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
