The star has donated the full amount of his £25k Mercury Prize winnings to the Music Venues Trust, which operates to protect the United Kingdom's small live music spots.

The star was presented with the award on mid-October as his third album the album was declared the top album of the last 12 months.

He has chosen to hand the money over to the Music Venues Trust, in recognition of the vital role local spots had in his initial steps.

"I couldn't be pursuing this success if it weren't for all the gigs I played around the region, and beyond, when I was just getting going," remarked Sam Fender. "These locations are iconic, but they are facing challenges."

Beginning in 2023, more than 150 of these locations have shut down – approximately 16 percent of the entire UK sector.

Recently, well-known musicians like Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the Music Venues Trust in its efforts to support the industry, by including a small levy to their ticket costs, which benefits local stages.

He also took part, raising more than £100,000 on his recent tour to support thirty-eight grassroots venues across Britain.

The money supported locations that were dealing with possible closure due to issues stemming from flooding, fire incidents and personal losses, as well as licensing issues, legal disputes and neighbor objections.

Additional spaces were granted funding support in modernizing facilities and sound and lighting systems that directly benefitted artists and concertgoers.

"The concept that revenue from concerts in large arenas backs the independent spots, where it kicks off for artists like me, is just sensible," Fender has said.

He is far from the only musician to give his award winnings to worthy causes.

Back when the band earned the award in the mid-90s for their release their work, frontman Jarvis Cocker stated that the act would contribute their winnings to the charity War Child.

That year, rapper and singer she shared her bounty across several organizations, like the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.

"Additionally, I contributed a £1,000 to my local community centre, to their gymnastics program, because I did gymnastics when I was younger and they required better apparatus," Ms Dynamite explained to a publication.

Previously, the band donated their funds to the youth organization that supported their group, alongside other grassroots music organisations.

Also the 1994 recipients they gave their prize to a MS organization after a friend was identified with the illness.

"Winning was quite enough," said vocalist the singer. "The cash was the cherry on top but we didn't need the extra, because we had the cake. So our winning impacted another person's life."

Last week, the Music Venues Trust announced it had protected a couple of local spots in that region, by transferring them to public stewardship.

One venue in Southampton and the second in that location were acquired under the Own Our Venues program, which is backed by Arts Council England and supporters who purchase "stakes" in the properties.
