This New Horror Film Can Be Streamed, and It Might Make or Break Your Romantic Bond.

Consider this a dare for those in enduring partnerships who are fans of scary movies: Get comfortable with your loved one and view Together. This independent film success of 2025 has now made its launch on a streaming platform via Hulu. Outwardly, it could look like conventional biological terror, but within Together exists a profound contemplation about the ways we decide to love each other.

An Introductory Film Exploring Partnership Complexities

Together marks the debut feature-length film for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It features the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, partners that have been together for a decade. Having wed in actuality in 2017, Franco and Brie contribute a unique chemistry to their roles, expertly portraying both the joys and frustrations of a enduring union.

The plot begins when Tim and Millie relocate from the urban environment to the countryside for Millie’s job. A familiar plot device, of course, but that’s mostly where the conventions cease. Together evolves into as much a psychological exploration of the partnership as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Paranormal Spark

While walking near their country house, a violent storm occurs, and Millie and Tim tumble into an underground cave. After being trapped overnight there and managing to escape, a supernatural entity takes hold of the pair. This force induces a paranormal intimacy between them that goes well past typical partnership.

The entire film is a methodically building fright fest, blending moments of dreamlike terrors, disturbing (but tastefully done) physical transformations, and authentically humorous exchanges (sometimes in the middle of something grotesque). The director weaves these elements together seamlessly and presents them in a slowly mounting sense of impending doom.

Nuanced Portrayals

A large part of Together is exclusively the two lead actors, and they skillfully illustrate countless layers to the characters’ relationship. Millie's sense of self and sense of connection is suffering due to a distance. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his hesitance to pursue anything but his struggling artistic pursuits gradually emerges.

Conversely, Tim senses confinement and isolated by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve moved to the country and far away from his support system. He fears the notion of utterly sacrificing his personal autonomy in his partner. This fear is further exacerbated by the circumstance he does not operate a vehicle and needs Millie for getting around.

The director's cleverest decision in Together refrains from painting one partner or the other the definite antagonist.

Both characters confront the sort of issues that arise in any relationship over a long period. At their core, they continue to care for each other. They share moments of joy, provide solace, and are vulnerable at times. But under the surface, there’s an persistent feeling of questioning about their relationship.

Thematic Depth

While the supernatural forces in Together symbolize these concerns of unhealthy attachment and totally devoting oneself to a partner, the metaphor avoids being hamfisted or self-important. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments provide a brilliant analogue to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the supernatural and the personal work together symbiotically.

A Debated Finale

Together’s final act, which remains unspoiled, has left audiences divided on the story's concluding statement about codependent relationships. It has been said that single viewers have seen the movie as a compelling reason for avoiding commitment. Meanwhile, a few pairs having disagreements found that the film ultimately assisted them reconcile.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own interpretation could potentially serve as a great barometer of how you perceive partnership. Will the finale plant feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you identify in either protagonist and feel frustration, or simply glance toward your significant other and utter, “I’d do that for you”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an test you can experience right now.

Together is streaming on Hulu's platform as of this moment.
